Govenor Profiles

Mr Matt Lormer - Co-Chair of Governors

Hello..my name is Matt Lorimer and I am Local Authority Governor.  This means that I am appointed on behalf of Birmingham City Council.  I have been a Governor at St Peters since February 2017.  During this time I have been a committee member and chair of the Staffing and Curriculum Committee which meets every half-term.

Prior to joining St Peters I was a Governor at a school in Wolverhampton, so I have been a Governor now since 2012 covering three Ofsted inspections also.

I have a wide range of experience, I am currently a Civil Servant working for the Food Standards Agency in Digital and Transformational Change.  I have held roles working at The National Lottery Community Fund, and Royal Bank of Scotland Group.  I am also a Board Member of Citizens Advice Sandwell and Walsall.

I do not have a connection to St Peters School or St Peters Church but I do live in the area which helps to add a different perspective and a healthy challenge at Governor meetings.  I am happy to chat with anyone who would like to chat and I can be contacted via the school enquiry email address.

Mrs Louise Senior - Co-Chair of Governors

Hi, my name is Louise.  I have a child in year 5 at St Peter's, as well as three children who have left - so I have got to know the school very well!  It has been a joy being part of the St Peters community as a parent over the last 11 years and I'm enjoying contributing as a governor and am looking forward to the next few years as Co-Chair working alongside Matt Lorimer. I love working with a group of people with varied skills and backgrounds on the governing body to help and support the team at St Peter's.

We live just round the corner from school, and my husband works at the University of Birmingham.  We have lived in Birmingham for over 25 years since coming as students (I studied French and Business Studies at UoB) and are very settled here.  Before having children I worked for Network Rail as a customer and account manager.  We are actively involved at City Church Birmingham, which meets in Edgbaston.  I am particularly involved in the kids work and lead the weekly parent and toddler group.

Mrs Anne Collins - Vice Chair Governors

I am one of the Foundation Governors appointed by the Diocese.  I am a member of St Peter's congregation where I am a Junior Church leader, serve on the Parochial Church Council (PCC) and am assistant church warden.  I have lived in Harborne virtually all my life and have attended St Peter's church for most of it, being brought as a small child by my grandmother and aunt.

I attended George Dixon Grammar School for Girls and then Dudley College of Education, where I gained a B.Ed from Birmingham University.  I began my teaching career at The Blue Coat School, where I lived in as an assistant housemistress in a boys' boarding house, whilst teaching the equivalent of Year 4.  I was also in charge of girls' games.

After ten years, I moved to Edgbaston High School, where I remained until my retirement in 2019, having completed 32 years there.  During my time there I was Year Group Co-ordinator for Years 4 and 5, as well as More Able, Gifted and Talented Co-ordinator.  Part of my role included organising and attending residential trips for both year groups.  I was also able to indulge my love of gymnastics, running Gym Clubs and the competitive Gym Squad.

In my leisure time I enjoy ballet - something I did and taught in Victoria Road in my teens, knitting, gardening and looking after my grandchildren.

If I can help with anything, please feel free to contact me.

Rev Canon Kate Stowe - Foundation Governor

Kate has been Parish Priest at St Peter’s Church since September 2020. She loves the variety of this role, which includes leading the life and worship of St Peter’s, working with our local schools, and making time to chat over a cup of tea.

Kate loves being part of the school community at St Peter's – as a priest, a parent and a governor. In her role on the Governing Body, Kate has a particular focus on faith and worship in school, and enjoys regular opportunities to pop in and observe collective worship.

In her spare time, Kate enjoys baking, reading and trying to keep fit (which is constantly impeded by the baking!).

Mr Leonidas Anastasakis - Foundation Governor

My name is Leonidas Anastasakis and as you have figured out from the name I am Greek. When I came to the UK for the first time in a sunny September day in 1998, I couldn’t imagine that I will still be here not just myself now but in the company of my wife and our two sons. I am working at Aston Business School as a lecturer in Business Analytics having done a PhD at the University of Sheffield In Business Forecasting. My involvement with St Peter’s started in 2013 when my son Iakovos started his school journey in the Reception class.  After seven happy, stress-free but also educationally rewarding years at St Peter's he has now moved to a secondary school.  However, the family is still linked to the school since my second son Vangelis is a member of the school community enjoying every aspect of his school life.  This is predominately down to the effort of all school staff but also the love and kindness of his class mates.  With an emphasis on the school's Ethos and Christian values but also the respect of each pupil religious belief, St Peter's has been able to create an environment that learning can flourish.  This is what motivated me to join the school's governing body and in my role as governor I intend to work on securing that the school will continue to offer this experience to the pupils while at the same time address parents' concerns and queries.  Furthermore, as a member of the finance and building subcommittee I am working towards ensuring the sustainability and financial stabiity of the school.  Playing with my two sons and enjoying a nice bottle of preferably Greek wine with my wife is what I like most, but I am also interested (time permitted) in the company of a nice politics or history book.  Any parents please, feel free to talk to me during the morning dropping off or email me at l.anastasakis@st-petersce.bham.sch.uk.  Hope all parents find my contribution to the school's governing body useful.   Accordion content

Mrs Caroline Swan - Foundation Governor

Hi, my name is Caroline Swain and I am a foundation governor appointed by the diocese.  I have two children at the school (Flora Year 5 and Etta Year 2) and I am married to Luke.  As a family, we are regular members of the congregation of St Peter's Church.  I am also in the PCC, chairperson of the social committee and a Junior Church Leader.

I came to Birmingham in 2000 to study Physiotherapy at the University of Birmingham.  I commenced work within the NHS at a trust in Dudley where I was for 18 years and more recently as a Team Leader Physiotherapist at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital.  Here I work with patients (both adults and paediatrics) who have had surgery, injuries, or recent cancer diagnosis.  The main areas I work within is the Hydrotherapy pool and the Physiotherapy gym.  I am also a Safeguarding Champion for adults and children.

Outside of work and family life I love sport, both doing and watching.  The sport I have done to a national level is swimming and I still try to swim 2–3 times a week.  I have been able to link Physiotherapy and swimming through becoming a National Classifier for Disability Swimming.

If you ever want to contact me, I would be happy to chat on the playground or you can contact me via the school office or school email.

Mrs Helen Whitehead - Foundation Governor

My name is Helen Whitehead.  I am delighted to have been appointed by the Birmingham Diocesan Board of Education as a Foundation governor for the school.  So who am I?  What interest do I have in St Peters and what on earth does a foundation governor do?

I have lived in St Peters parish since 2001.  My husband and I made St Peters our spiritual home and we were married there in 2004.  Keith and I have been worshipping God there ever since.  Our faith is central to who we are and who we try to be (I am still very much a work in progress).  We have 2 cats who have us very well trained and 6 god-children.

Why St Peters?

I have helped at Tuesday Rainbows and Brownies at St Peters Church for almost 10 years.  I have always been very interested in the spiritual care of all our children and I  volunteer with St Peters Junior Church.  I also volunteer to hear pupils read every week at the school.

I am proud to be part of the new church pastoral team where part of my role, will be to help Rev Canon Kate to continue to develop the great links between St Peters church and school and to help Rev. Charlotte and Rev. Canon Kate continue the collective worship.

Academically, I have great GCSEs, dreadful A Levels and a 2:1 BSc (Hons) German and Law from the University of Surrey.  After a gap year, I gained a distinction in my postgraduate diploma in legal practice and trained with Martineau Johnson in Birmingham.  I qualified as a solicitor in 2002 and I accepted a job in their education and regulatory team.  I worked until 2005 when I felt God ask me to move from the corporate world.  I followed God's call to the Crown Prosecution Service and I worked there until I retired on medical grounds in March 2023.

I should probably mention that I am in a wheelchair at this point!

So what does a foundation governor do?  I am asked by the Inspecting authorities to work effectively with the Head Teacher and school and to be dedicated to realising a shared Christian vision for the school.  If you would like to speak to me about anything at all, please contact the school.

Tracey Purvis - Clerk to the Governors

I am Clerk to the Governors at St Peters and have been for over 20-years.  I am also the Infant Secretary within the school.

I have lived in Harborne most of my life and obviously have seen many changes.

I went to Harborne Primary School (Station Road as it was back in the day) and then to Lordswood Girls' School.  My working background is mainly in law where I worked both for Crown Prosecution Service and various defence solicitors as a law clerk.  After my daughter Rosie and son Sam were born, I wanted to be around more for them so became a childminder, mainly for children who attended St Peters.  Both my children have completed their education, however, both would tell you their happiest days were at St Peter's.

Whilst my children were at St Peters I was involved with Friends of St Peters.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any queries and wish to contact a Governor in relation to a matter within school, I will happily pass on any correspondence, requests, etc.
