  • Meet the Govenors (Page Under Development)

Welcome to the Governors’ page on the St Peters Church of England Primary School website.

The role of the school Governor is a very valuable and rewarding one but often one that is misunderstood. We do not manage the day to day running of the school that is the responsibility of the Headteacher and senior management We oversee the development of the school, with the main aim being to always provide a high standard of education for all pupils, of all abilities.

The role of the Governing Body focusses on three core responsibilities. We should:

    • Provide strategic review – focusing on where they can add the most value, helping to decide, set and keep under review the school’s broad framework and strategy so that the Headteacher and staff are able to continually raise standards of achievement and promote effective teaching and successful pupil learning.
    • Act as the ‘critical friend’ of the Headteacher and school – providing the Headteacher and staff with support, guidance and advice drawing on the member’s knowledge and experience as well as monitoring, evaluating the school's effectiveness and promoting the interests of the children.
    • To ensure accountability – responsibility for ensuring a quality education in the school by being in an informed position, discussing, questioning and refining proposals to fit the school and its short, medium and long-term strategies, whilst at all times respecting the Headteacher and staff and the work that they do in the school.
    • Oversee the financial performance of the school, making sure we get value for money.

The Governing Body has up to 12 Governors including staff, parents, a Local Authority nominee and members of the community. Our governors come from a range of backgrounds and bring a range of expertise to the panel, together their aim is to ensure each child at the school is accessing the best possible education.  As and when there are vacancies, applications are welcome from all eligible candidates.
